FIRST GRADE HAPPENINGS The 1st grade class has made us very proud! They are working on their class work and homework very diligently. The children finished their “Curious George” book reports, and shared them with the class. Great job 1st graders! The students love to read. They enjoy books about “Henry and Mudge”, Dr. Seuss, Clifford, and The Bernstain Bears. In the months of April and May, we will learn many new concepts. In Math, we will be practicing measurement. The students will compare inches with centimeters. We also will continue learning our addition and subtraction facts. Our biggest challenge will be to learn to add 3 digit numbers. The class will continue to work with money. In Reading and Language Arts, the class will be focusing on long vowels and blends. We will read many stories that highlight these concepts. In Social Studies, the 1st graders will discuss Native Americans, our country’s holidays, and our leaders. In Science, we will explore the concepts of matter, movement, sound, speed, and energy. In Religion, Ascension, a holy day of obligation, will be discussed with the children. May will also be a very special month for our 1st grade mothers. We are planning a very special surprise for these great moms. Don’t forget to save Friday morning, May 1st , for a special surprise. The children are very thankful to all of their moms for all they do! The class will perform in the Spring Concert on Wednesday night, May 20th . Good luck 1st grade! Field Day is Friday, May 22nd . Finally, on Thursday, June 4th, we will be going on a class trip to Outragehisss Pets. This will be a truly fun time!
