PreKindergarten 4
Pre-K 4
Dear Incoming Pre-K 4 Students and Families,
I hope that everyone is enjoying their summer, and is getting an opportunity to relax and soak in the beautiful weather. I wanted to take this opportunity to share some information with you about our upcoming school year. For many children Pre-Kindergarten is their first experience in a school setting, and we strive to make this a smooth transition for all. A few ideas that can help your child transition into school are...
*Attending a local library reading hour, if it is available in your area to help your child learn how to focus in a whole group setting.
*Reading with your child every night and asking thought provoking questions about the text.
*Beginning to expose your child to all 26 upper and lower case alphabet letters and their corresponding sounds and numbers from1-20. Flashcards are a helpful tool for this skill.
*Helping your child to begin to write his/her name.
*Counting by rote, and by using one to one correspondence which means to point to a manipulative as you count one by one.
*Joining a local play group, if it is available in your area to help develop social skills.
At the start of the school year, your child will need a book bag that is large enough to carry one folder, a small blanket if they are staying for the full day session, and any art projects that are being sent home.
Please send your child to school on the first day of classes with a complete change of clothes.
Please label all items with your child's first and last name. I am looking forward to meeting all of you in September!!!
Miss Mary
