PreKindergarten 3

Summer 2010

Welcome to Pre-K 3 at the Academy of St. Therese. The preschool program at St. Therese offers a developmentally appropriate curriculum with attention to individual readiness while exposing the children to some structure and formal skills. Areas of instruction include religion, the alphabet with phonological awareness, mathematics (number recognition, counting, sorting, and patterning), science, social studies, creative expression through art, and music.

Preschool is an exciting time for 3 year olds. They are full of wonder and spend a lot of time watching, observing, and imitating the world around them. The Academy of St. Therese offers our students numerous opportunities for hands on exploration. Some of Pre-K 3's favorite activities include making ice cream, butter, and orange juice; observing turtles and worms; shopping in our classroom supermarket; listening to our heartbeats; making play-dough; using a balance scale; and observing and measuring the growth of the seeds we plant.

I look forward to "exploring the world" with your children!

The following are a few items I would like to bring to your attention before the school year begins:

School Session: Monday, Wednesday and Fridays 8:30 AM to 11:00 AM

Folders: Your child will receive a folder on the first day of school. It is important that your child bring this folder to school every day. All correspondence, such as your child's work and important school notices, will be sent home in these folders. Please check the folder every school day.

Backpacks: Your child must have a backpack or tote bag large enough to fit one folder and any art projects being sent home.

Extra Clothes: Please send in to school on the first day an extra set of clothing (including underwear and socks) for your child to be kept in the classroom. These clothes will be used in the event that your child needs to change as a result of a spill or bathroom mishap. Please send the clothes in a labeled Ziploc bag.

Bathroom Policy: Bathroom time is an independent time for your child. Please note, the easier the clothing to manipulate, the easier it is for your child to be independent.

Keeping in Touch: Every Monday you will receive a "Pre-K 3 Weekly Newsletter" which will keep you informed of our theme and letter for the week. Included in the notice will be reminders of important dates and other useful information. If you have any questions or concerns you may e-mail me; send a note in your child's folder; speak to me at dismissal; or call the office to schedule an appointment.

Label Everything: Please write your child's name on everything that comes to school. This includes your child's backpack, coats, envelopes, etc.

I look forward to meeting you in September at our Open House. Have a great summer!

Sincerely,

Mrs. McPherson
